It's November!?

Apparently I'm a bad blogger. So much has happened in the last month! I won't unload everything in one long post, but here are some of the highlights since I last dished about my life in Nairobi.

I've gotten to explore so much of the beautiful country I live in. Kenya is fascinating and I have enjoyed going to a few more parks and coming face to face with the wildlife that call this place home.
Giraffe at Nakuru game park.

On one such visit to Nakuru I found out about a shooting that took place at a mall in Nairobi. As many of you know, this was a more than just a shooting. What happened at Westgate shook our Rosslyn community and greater Nairobi. God is good and carried us through the mentally exhausting task of coming back to school and returning to a routine.

I climbed on a rock...a real one. Although I'm glad I gave it a try, I think I'll keep my size 7 feet firmly planted on the ground and leave the mountain climbing to the professionals/my roommates.
That orange speck is me!

My students are reading machines! They are seriously  voracious readers  and I'm so excited about it! The read aloud is my favorite part of the day- always has been, always will. It was really exciting to read A Long Walk to Water with my class. That's the book our school (Wauchula Elementary School) read as a school wide project. It takes place in Africa...I'll blog about it later. Right now we are reading Rascal and they are independently reading The Tale of Despereaux

Any of you Wauchula peeps who were at the going away party remember when some of you prayed for me? Remember that you prayed that God would provide friendships and Godly relationships? Well, your prayers were answered and I must say that I've made some amazing friends and have enjoyed getting to know them.

My roommate Lindsey and I traveled to Uganda and back. It was indeed an adventure worthy of a spot on prime-time television with all the mishaps that seemed to come our way. Just kidding, Mom, it was totally safe and smooth and no one got hurt....well, at least not us. More to come on this adventure including our trip down the Nile!
Lindsey and I in Jinja, Uganda on the Nile.

I ran a 10K through downtown Nairobi! My friend Libby and I run in the mornings and really pushed ourselves by running a 10k. We typically do about half that in the mornings. It was great and we ran with real runners! Our friends Lindsey and Johnny ran the half marathon- they are troopers! We celebrated with a delicious breakfast from Java Cafe. (Yes we have one in Nairobi! It's actually a chain here.)
We survived!

The Bible Study group I attend just finished up Beth Moore's study of James. Can I just say that I could listen to her talk for hours- she is so easy to listen to and a gifted storyteller. Also, her outfits are perfectly conservative and quirky. I love it. Oh, and I was really challenged by the Bible study but I did not memorize the book of James.

We had parent conferences last week and I am privileged to work with some amazing parents who are very supportive of myself, their kids, and our school. Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure this is reality.

Missing working with our youth group back home, I've been helping out with the Blue Sky middle school youth group that meets on Sundays. It's great and this past Sunday we had a Thanks-a-ween celebration.

It's Spirit Week and we get to dress up this week. Tomorrow is Wacky Tacky day and I can't wait to wear my awesome elephant pants I picked up in Uganda. Woo-hoo! I'm so appreciative for the opportunity to live, work, and serve here!
